An Interview with Renaud Gautier, Business Development Manager – Petfood, Coveris – Interzoo 2026

A topic on the minds of many petfood producers attending this year’s Interzoo in Nuremberg, Germany is the challenge to meet new EU Directives in packaging and plastic waste recycling. Roger Gilbert of International Petfood magazine spoke with Renaud Gautier the Business Development Manager – Petfood for Coveris about the requirements to meet new standards being implemented this year within Europe. Keeping plastic circular and sustainable is the goal. He also spoke of his concerns surrounding the introduction of the far-reaching PFAS-free design in products. NOTE: PFAS (both per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) are a group of over 10,000 synthetics ‘forever chemicals’ used since the 1940s to make products resistant to water, grease and stains. They are highly persistent in the environment and bioaccumulative, leading to potential health risks like cancer and immune system weakening.
