Assisi Pet Care, a UK-based producer of premium petfood and treats, has acquired another UK natural petfood manufacturer, Forthglade, from private equity firm IK Partners. The acquisition marks another step in the company’s strategy to expand its portfolio of premium pet nutrition brands.
The transaction, announced on 20 July, is subject to customary regulatory approvals. The financial terms were not disclosed. The acquisition brings together two established players in the UK pefood market.
Forthglade has undergone significant growth during IK Partners’ ownership through the IK Small Cap II Fund since August 2020. Under the leadership of CEO David Cox, Forthglade has doubled revenues, significantly expanded its manufacturing capabilities, accelerated its digital commerce footprint and scaled its product offering across wet and dry food, treats and supplements. It has also invested in operational efficiency and innovation to meet rising consumer demand for natural and premium pet food products.
Assisi Pet Care said the addition of Forthglade to its existing portfolio of petfood and treat brands will help strengthen its position in the premium European natural pet nutrition segment. Forthglade joins Assisi’s existing premium brand portfolio, such as Burns, Hollings, HiLife, Maced, Pet Munchies, Yakers and NAW. This creates a highly complementary natural petfood and treats group with strong manufacturing and online facilities across the UK and Continental Europe.
According to the company, Forthglade will continue to operate under its established brand identity while benefiting from Assisi Pet Care’s manufacturing expertise, commercial capabilities and broader market reach.
Forthglade, headquartered in Devon, is recognised for its natural wet and dry dog food, treats and complementary feeding products. Founded in 1971, the company has built a strong presence across grocery, specialist pet retail and e-commerce channels, with a focus on high-quality recipes made using natural ingredients.
