Sebastiaan van Dijk, KSE

In this presentation, Sebastiaan van Dijk from KSE Process Technology in the Netherlands will dive into the recent and innovative solutions that are transforming dosing and weighing in the milling process. Micro ingredient dosing systems are for sure not your bottleneck towards a higher production capacity while ensuring continuous feed quality.

Attendees will gain valuable insights into achieving exceptional accuracy, optimizing ingredient tracking, eliminating industry challenges like product damage, and boosting productivity. Empowering your business to streamline operations and meet the demands of a rapidly evolving market. Join us to discover how innovative dosing and weighing technologies can revolutionize your production processes and drive your success.

Grinding: The Role of the Roller Mill in the Feedmill

Mr. Olaf Naehrig, Amandus Kahl

The feed structure is one of the most important factors for successful animal nutrition. KAHL crushing roller mills break the grain into smaller particles with an as low as possible fines content. They are therefore ideally suited for economic grinding of different products, particularly for grain and other feed components. Typical applications are the grinding of pig and poultry feed. Single-stage or two-stage crushing can be performed, with the traditional KAHL roller mill and with the new KAHL roller mill with individually driven rollers, for an even better overall result. KAHL crushing roller mills are characterised by high robustness, simple operation and very low energy consumption. They are an efficient alternative or supplement to hammer mills.

Micro Dosing: Handling minor ingredients and additives used for feed production

Marco Prati, PLP Systems

Additives in the feed production are used for many different scopes (nutritional, medical, palatants, technical, quality improvements etc.) and have different characteristics.
The additives can be dosed in two ways: PREMIX – Produced in a dedicated premix plant, MICRO DOSING – Dosing the single component directly in the plant.
The PREMIX plant is a facility dedicated exclusively on the dosing, mixing and packing of formulas dedicated for the pet food or aqua feed industry.
There are two ways of handling the micro ingredients in the mill:

PLP has developed solutions for avoiding cross contamination while providing automation for an accurate and reliable dosing and quick batch production.

Expander conditioning: Expander Technology in the Feedmill

Mr. Olaf Naehrig, Amandus Kahl

The KAHL expander plays a key role in the production of high-quality feed. Expanding the feed mixture prior to pelleting increases the efficiency of the pellet mill and the pellet quality. Pathogenic germs, such as salmonellae or moulds, are eliminated by the treatment in the expander. The precisely controllable process ensures gentle treatment of value determining ingredients such as proteins, vitamins or enzymes. Furthermore, high quantities of liquids such as fat, molasses and vinasse can be added to the process. The expander also shows its strengths in the processing of monocomponents. Variable pressure and temperature settings enable specific treatment, e.g. with regard to starch modification and the reduction of inhibitors.

High Meat Addition in Pet Food Processing

Jonathan Zheng , Zhenghchang

The production of high fresh meat baking food is limited by the moisture content of meat raw materials. The large amount of moisture brought by meat raw materials with moisture content of over 60% seriously affect series of problems such as preparation, ripening, and shaping, becoming a bottleneck in the process of high fresh meat baking pet food.

Zhengchang Group aims to provide our beloved pets with pet food in higher meat content, better palatability and more balanced nutrition. Committed to creating a high-end kitchen for pets, Zhengchang have invested 100 million RMB to establish a professional pet food technology and equipment R&D center, as well as a pet food experimental testing center. After years of hard work in R&D, Zhengchang successfully broke through the bottleneck of adding high fresh meat to pet food in 2022, with the highest fresh meat (75% moisture content) added exceeding 120%! In the same year, it was successfully put into use in China’s largest pet food processing group.

Automation: The importance of moisture control and measurement throughout the feed milling process

Neal Cass, Hydronix

In this session, Neal Cass, from Hydronix will discuss the importance of moisture control and measurement throughout the milling process. You will learn:

  1. Why do you need to measure moisture?
  2. Where do you typically measure moisture?
  3. How do you control moisture?
  4. Which methods are used to measure moisture?
  5. What are the real benefits of moisture control with a grain dryer case study?
  6. How to connect to the wider world?

Heat treatment and Pelleting: Safe feed forms the basis for safe food

Roger Ubags, Van Aarsen

The Hot Start Steam Mixer is one of Van Aarsen’ s innovations that helps improve your pelleting process. With a very quick start-up and the conditioning process, it ensures a guaranteed and accurate heat treatment.

Conditioning is the result of the following three variables: moisture, temperature, and time. As moisture and temperature are related, time is the ultimate variable to enhance this process. With the Van Aarsen Long Term Vessel (LTV), time can be gained which makes it the ultimate enhancement in your Animal Feed process.

By pelletizing raw materials after grinding, mixing, and conditioning, Animal Feed pellets can be produced in several diameters and hardnesses. The Van Aarsen CU Pellet Mill range, depending on various parameters, can enable capacities up to 70 tons per hour!

Cooling: Grain Management for Reliable Feed Milling

Claus Braunbeck, Frigortec

Storage of grain, oils seeds and pulses requires a continuous management effort to maintain quality and quantity of the stored commodity. Furthermore the expenses for the protection of the goods as well as the harmfulness to the environment are an additional burden in grain management. The use of GRANIFRIGORTM grain cooling is an alternative to the usual approach of protection of grains, oil seeds and pulses. Grain cooling prevents not only physiologic degradation and spoilage of grain but also protects of hazard as fungi development, weevil infestation and water condensation. The presentation will give a comprehensive review about GRANIFRIGORTM grain cooling as total solution for protection of stored commodities to maintain quality and quantity.

Storage & Bulk outloading: From process design to a building design: How structural thinking saves time, space and errors

Sven Konings, TSC Silos

A mill is often designed by its desired output and the processes required to reach that output. Only at a later stage is the actual mill building considered. However, integrating constructive thinking early in the design process can yield significant benefits.

In this presentation, we explore how integrating structural thinking into the process design from early on saves time, reduces errors, saves space, and enhances efficiency based on real-life cases. We stay away from the obvious, and present cases and solutions that are as practical as they are unnoticeable if you are not aware of them. Yet, they were only possible in the same efficient way if it wasn’t for adding structural thinking to the process thinking. This, as well as a glimpse into the future of silo design, is what to expect from Sven Konings’ talk at the Build my Feedmill conference at the VICTAM Asia this year.
