Topic: The Challenge of Corn Storage for Reliable Feed Milling
Dr. Claus M. Braunbeck studied agronomy at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms University in Bonn and the University of Hohenheim. He graduated in the field of agricultural engineering. He then took his Ph. D. at the Institute of Agricultural Engineering in the Tropics and Subtropics of the University of Hohenheim.
During his doctorate he worked on the development a rice husk furnace for the low-temperature drying of paddy. During this time he supported a German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) project on post-harvest technology for rice in the humid tropics at the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), Los Banos, Philippines.
Following this project Dr. Braunbeck worked for almost 10 years as a product manager in the field of ventilation technology in agriculture. Later he joined GEA Farm Technologies GmbH as sales manager for milking equipment with responsibility for sales in Asia. Since 2011 Dr. Braunbeck has been the Asia sales manager for FrigorTec GmbH. Abstract:
Corn is an essential ingredient in feeds and plays a role for a feed mill. Only continuous management of it during the storage is keeping its quality acceptable. Nevertheless, common technologies have limitations, and often chemicals are used for quality protection. The understanding of the quality of the corn and how grain storage brings critical conditions that escalates by handling is mandatory to know and to understand. Furthermore the expenses for the protection of the corn as well as the harmfulness to the environment are an additional burden in grain management. The use of GRANIFRIGORTM grain cooling is an alternative to the usual approach of protection of corn. Grain cooling prevents not only physiologic degradation and spoilage, but also protects of hazard as fungi development, weevil infestation and water condensation. The presentation will give a comprehensive view of corn handling and postharvest management at a silo.
