CPPC & SCGC Launch ASEAN’s First Recycled Petfood Packaging

Petfood Packaging

CPPC Public Company Limited (CPPC), the packaging business of Charoen Pokphand Group (CP Group), has partnered with SCG Chemicals (SCGC) to introduce ASEAN’s first food-grade recycled petfood packaging. The packaging is produced using Advanced Recycling technology, announced on 3 August in Bangkok. It is designed for safe food contact for both pets and humans, while supporting circular economy goals by incorporating certified recycled materials.

The collaboration combines CPPC’s packaging manufacturing capabilities with SCGC’s Advanced Recycling technology, which converts post-consumer plastic waste into Circular Naphtha and subsequently produces high-quality Certified Circular Polyolefin Resin under the SCGC GREEN POLYMER™ brand. According to the companies, the recycled resins deliver performance equivalent to virgin plastics, allowing the petfood packaging production to meet food-contact safety requirements without harmful contaminants.

Both CPPC and SCGC hold ISCC PLUS certification, enabling traceability across the supply chain for the food-grade recycled materials. The companies said the packaging is suitable for both human and petfood applications while helping reduce plastic waste and greenhouse gas emissions.

According to SCGC, the food-grade recycled petfood packaging has been commercially implemented since 2024. The companies report that its adoption has helped avoid more than 1000 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO₂e) emissions compared with landfill disposal or incineration. They added that this reduction is comparable to the environmental benefit of planting more than 100,000 trees.

Prasert Pungkumarn, Senior Vice President of Charoen Pokphand Group and Chairman of the Packaging Business Group, said, “As a leader in the packaging industry, CPPC recognizes its responsibility towards natural resources and the global environmental challenges we face today”. The partnership reflects CPPC’s commitment to applying circular economy principles and demonstrates how plastic waste can be transformed into valuable resources while supporting more sustainable manufacturing.

Chatri Eamsobhana, Chief Commercial Officer of SCGC, said the company continues to develop polymer innovations and recycling technologies that support closed-loop plastic waste management. He noted that SCGC aims to return “500,000 tonnes of used plastics back into the circular economy annually by 2030 through collaboration across the value chain”.

The companies said the packaging offers the strength, durability, moisture protection and food-contact safety required by leading global petfood brands while advancing sustainability objectives within the petfood packaging sector.
