Godrej Pet Care (GPC), a subsidiary of Godrej Consumer Products Ltd (GCPL), has expanded its Godrej Ninja petfood brand into four southern Indian states, following its initial launch in Tamil Nadu.
The scientifically formulated dog food, developed to support gut health and immunity, is now available in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Kerala. The expansion forms part of the company’s strategy to establish a pan-India presence in the country’s growing pet care market.
South India represents an estimated IN₹1,800–2,000 crore of India’s petfood market. Karnataka is the region’s largest market, followed by Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Nationally, Karnataka accounts for 15 percent of petfood sales, while Andhra Pradesh and Telangana each contribute 8 percent, Tamil Nadu 8 percent and Kerala 5 percent.
“South India is a key growth market for India’s pet care industry and presents a significant opportunity for long-term category development,” said Nitin Jain, Chief Operating Officer, Godrej Pet Care. “Godrej Pet Care is democratising the petfood category by offering a great quality product at a more affordable price point than those currently available in the market.”
Dr Ashok Pattanaik, Head of Research & Development at Godrej Pet Care and former Principal Scientist at the Indian Veterinary Research Institute, said the formulation was developed to address the nutritional needs of pet dogs.
“Nearly 70 percent of a dog’s immune system resides in the gut, and poor nutrition can weaken immunity,” he said. “Gastrointestinal issues account for nearly 30 percent of veterinary visits, highlighting the importance of scientifically formulated nutrition. Ninja has been developed with a 3P blend of probiotics, prebiotics and polyphenols, together with 37 balanced nutrients to support digestive health, immunity and overall wellbeing.”
Manufactured and tested in India, Godrej Ninja was developed at the Nadir Godrej Centre for Animal Research & Development and is specifically formulated to meet the nutritional requirements of pet dogs.
