A new report by Allied Market Research has stated that the organic pet food market is estimated to reach USD $29.2 billion by 2031, growing at a compound annual growth rate of 4.8 percent from 2022 to 2031.

The organic pet food market was valued at USD $18.7 billion in 2021 and is expected to grow significantly over the next few years. Pet food labelled as ‘Organic’ must be natural food that adheres to the U.S. department of agriculture requirements. The emerging popularity of organic pet food relates to the general health benefits, such as less digestive issues, fewer skin allergies and ailments, as well as a better quality of life.

A Key finding of this report relating to the region, stated that North America dominated the organic pet food market overall, at USD $6402.9 million in 2021, which is estimated to reach USD $9549.3 million in 2031. This domination of the market is expected to continue. The Asia-Pacific region is also expected to experience the fastest growth in the organic pet food market, due to growing urbanisation and connectivity projects.

The report also indicated that within the organic pet food market, dogs (food) was the highest revenue contributor, with USD $8562 million 2021, which is expected to reach USD $13189 million by 2031. The ownership of dogs trend comes from the companionship and security they offer owners, and they create great opportunities for organic pet food to be developed due to their need for a variety of nutrients.

Of all the pet food types, the dry food segments were reported as the highest revenue contributor to the market. In 2021 it was valued at USD $6317.3 million, and is estimated to reach USD $9563.7 million by 2031. This could be due to the increased emphasis on ‘premium products’ when manufacturing pet food.

The regional market for organic pet food is being driven by a rise in advertisements, campaigns to raise pet health awareness, and celebrity endorsements. The increase of global production of organic pet food is due to urbanisation, rising incomes in developing nations and population growth.

Since the popular trend of adoption has increased pet ownership globally, so has the demand for organic pet food as a result of evolving family structures lifestyles (‘Pet humanisation’). Pet humanisation has encouraged ‘pet parents’ to favour more nourished, therapeutic food products to reduce health hazards. This has ultimately led to higher spending on pet products, as owners strive to avoid the negative effects of the synthetic and chemical ingredients in commercial pet food.
