Partners Group has agreed to acquire MPM Products, a prominent player in the premium cat food market, from 3i.
This move highlights the increasing interest of private equity in the thriving pet industry, reported Private Equity Insights.
Based in the UK, MPM is known for its brands like Applaws, Reveal, and Encore. The company distributes products in over 50 countries and has established a strong presence in both North America and Europe, primarily through e-commerce and retail channels.
MPM specialises in premium wet cat food made with real meat and fish, emphasising clean-label ingredients.
The Partners Group noted on its website that the cat food sector is currently benefiting from trends such as the rise in pet ownership and the growing demand for high-quality pet food products.
With $78 billion in assets under management, Partners Group plans to aid MPM’s expansion in existing markets, explore new regions, and strengthen supply chain efficiency.
“There is a significant growth opportunity in the premium cat food segment, which has historically been under-served by dog-focused incumbents,” said Thomas Clark, Managing Director of Private Equity Goods & Products at Partners Group.
Julian Bambridge, Chief Executive Officer, MPM Products, said: “Feeding is one of the key moments when owners interact with their cats, which reinforces a desire to provide something special at these times. At MPM, our goal is to enrich the lives of pets and owners through visibly better food that uses the highest quality natural ingredients and provides core health benefits. We are excited to continue our strong growth under Partners Group’s ownership.”
This acquisition aligns with Partners Group’s focus on pet ‘humanisation’ and the potential for long-term value in branded consumer goods.
