The Purina Institute has introduced the Handbook of Canine and Feline Well-Pet Nutrition, a free eBook designed to support veterinary professionals in providing informed pet food recommendations.
Featuring contributions from 54 experts across 20 countries, this resource addresses many challenges veterinarians face when discussing nutrition with pet owners. Key topics include the roles of different nutrients, tailored nutrition for various life stages, proactive nutritional strategies, and effective communication techniques.
Each chapter is designed to be brief and accessible, with essential takeaways and visual aids that can be used during busy clinic hours. Natalia Wagemans, global head of the Purina Institute, stated, “Nutritional science has evolved significantly, and there are many facets to consider in a well-pet diet… This resource simplifies the process of making informed recommendations.”
Despite 83% of veterinarians recognising the importance of nutrition for pet health, only 34% engage in proactive discussions with clients, the company notes. The new handbook aims to change this by empowering veterinary teams to initiate these important conversations and improve pet wellness.
Veterinary professionals can access the Handbook of Canine and Feline Well-Pet Nutrition for free by visiting the website and signing up for scientific updates. This initiative complements the existing Handbook of Canine and Feline Clinical Nutrition, which focuses on nutrition for health conditions in pets and the CentreSquare™ toolkit, designed to enhance discussions around pet nutrition.
