Bühler Group has introduced a range of new and upgraded processing solutions following Interpack 2026 in Düsseldorf, with a strong focus on applications for the petfood sector. The developments combine advances in hygienic design, usability, digital technologies and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to improve reliability, increase yield and support new market opportunities for food and feed manufacturers. Several of the innovations are being showcased at booths C46 and C47 in Hall 3 during Interpack from May 7–13.
A key development for petfood producers is the introduction of the Nutrex 7 Series extrusion platform. Developed in collaboration with customers, the system focuses on improving process hygiene, increasing productivity and integrating advanced digital technologies. The platform builds on Bühler’s 40 years of experience in extrusion for cereals, snacks, petfood, meat alternatives and ingredients, while continuing to use its established twin-screw extrusion technology.

Stefanie Hardtmann, Product Manager Value Nutrition at Bühler, said the company adopted a holistic approach centred on hygienic design, process stability, integrated intelligence and service excellence, all aimed at increasing Overall Equipment Efficiency (OEE) for customers.
Improved access for cleaning has been a major focus of the Nutrex 7 Series, particularly relevant for petfood manufacturers managing product changeovers and strict hygiene requirements. The slimmer extruder design, elevated base frame and repositioned hydraulic box allow easier access for cleaning equipment and faster maintenance procedures. According to Bühler, selected customer sites using the system have reported cleaning time reductions of around 50%, enabling increased production time, more efficient product changeovers and improved process stability.
Bühler noted that food and feed producers, including petfood manufacturers, are operating in increasingly volatile markets shaped by fluctuating raw material costs, stricter safety and traceability expectations, and changing consumer demands. The company believes these conditions are creating opportunities for manufacturers able to respond quickly through innovation and improved operational efficiency.
