Chef Kitty, a New York-based cat and dog treat brand, has expanded its single-ingredient freeze-dried lineup with the launch of Freeze-Dried Rainbow Trout Treats. The treats are made from rainbow trout sourced from ASC-certified farms and aquaculture operations in Idaho’s Snake River Canyon, where the fish are raised in pristine Rocky Mountain spring water.
The ASC certification represents the highest standard for responsible aquaculture. Additionally, the certification is rated Best Choice by Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch, the highest rating awarded to any farmed fish in the United States.
The product is made from a single ingredient—100% freeze-dried rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss). It contains no grains, preservatives, artificial flavours, or fillers. The single-ingredient treat helps support healthy skin, a shiny coat, lean muscle maintenance, and overall wellness in pets.
The freeze-dried treats for cats and dogs contain 66.7% crude protein, 23.4% crude fat, including Omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA, and 2.12% moisture. They have a two-year shelf life at room temperature and require no refrigeration. According to the company, the product offers one of the highest protein concentrations available in a freeze-dried pet treat.
The freeze-drying process helps to preserve the full nutritional profile of fresh trout without heat processing and chemical treatment. This process results in a two-year shelf life at room temperature and only 2.12% moisture content.
According to the company, the land-farmed rainbow trout carries no risk of heavy metal accumulation or microplastic contamination compared with ocean-caught fish. The land-based aquaculture systems also help protect wild salmon populations by eliminating the ecological pressures associated with open-water fish farming.
