September 11, 2023 – With packaging ranking among the top three most important sustainability issues facing the pet industry, the Pet Sustainability Coalition (PSC) has worked hard to provide as many resources, tools and programs as possible to equip the pet industry to tackle this issue. PSC launched the Packaging Pledge at SuperZoo 2022, and is now helping businesses in the pet industry transition to recyclable, refillable and compostable packaging by 2025. Previously, PSC developed and launched Flex Forward, a return-to-retail pilot program that collected over 8000 lbs of post-consumer packaging for recycling trials and was completed in 2022.
Across the industry, brands looking to move towards more sustainable packaging have identified hurdles that slow progress on their sustainable packaging journey, from on-pack labelling, legislation, how to make a package recyclable and PFAS. Upon nothing these trending topics, PSC saw the unique opportunity to bring experts directly to the pet industry community to better address these concerns.
Beginning September 12th through October 10th, the Pet Sustainability Coalition will host five weekly 1-hour webinars highlighting and discussing some of the major topics happening in the pet packaging space. During this Packaging Webinar Series, attendees will see topics including How2Recycle Labelling, Design for Recyclability, PFAS in pet packaging, global packaging legislation and tools for recyclable packaging.
As Ali Boden, senior packaging program manager of PSC rejects, “With the ever-changing landscape surrounding sustainable packaging, we constantly strive to connect experts in fields such as legislation, recycling and on-pack labelling, and PFAS to the PSC community. In my daily interactions with PSC members, inquiries relating to these topics have come up frequently. I’m excited to provide a forum for these questions to be answered by those most knowledgeable in that space.”
The Webinar series will serve as a precursor for some of the in-depth discussions that will occur at PSC’s signature packaging event, UnPacked next year. PSC is excited to bring leaders from Dow, GreenBlue, Root, The Recycling Partnership and Charter Next Generation to these webinars as experts on each topic discussed.
