CRB, a leading global provider of engineering, architecture, construction and consulting solutions for the life sciences and food and beverage industries, announced the appointment of Joe Finsterwald as its first chief technology officer (CTO). The creation of a new role marks a strategic step in the company’s efforts to expand its digital capabilities and strengthen the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and enterprise technology across its operations.
In his new role, Finsterwald will oversee CRB’s technology, information technology (IT) and data functions while working closely with the Executive Leadership Team. He will lead the company’s technological strategy, while focusing on improving project delivery and enhancing operational performance. CRB said consolidating technology leadership under a dedicated executive will help strengthen strategic alignment. It will also contribute to advancing the adoption of AI, automation, cybersecurity, digital field technologies and enterprise data capabilities.

Finsterwald brings more than 15 years of executive technology leadership experience spanning cybersecurity, enterprise software and financial services. Before joining CRB, he co-founded cybersecurity and compliance platform Aberrant.IO, where he served as chief product and technology officer and chief information security officer, helping guide the company through its acquisition. Earlier, he was chief technology officer at First Republic Bank and developed the organization’s in-house software engineering capability. He also held senior technology leadership positions at Gradifi, Vistaprint and Karmaloop.
Commenting on the appointment, CRB President and Chief Executive Officer Vahid Ownjazayeri said technology has become inseparable from how clients design, build and operate their facilities, making the creation of the CTO role an important part of the company’s long-term strategy.
“Technology is inseparable from how our clients design, build and operate their facilities,” said Vahid Ownjazayeri, CRB’s President and Chief Executive Officer. He added that creating the chief technology officer role reflects their commitment to staying ahead of that evolution and Joe brings the experience to strengthen our digital capabilities.
Commenting on his appointment, Finsterwald said, “I’m excited to join CRB at a time when technology is reshaping engineering and construction.” The company has an exceptional reputation for technical excellence and client service.
