Private equity firm 3i Group has postponed the sale of petfood maker MPM to assess the impact of new US tariffs, Bloomberg News reported. MPM, which owns brands such as Applaws, Reveal, and Encore, sources materials from Thailand. The US recently imposed a 36% tariff on Thai exports, one of the highest under US President Donald Trump’s trade policy.
The sale of MPM, which could have been valued at around £500 million ($635.75 million), was initially planned but is now on hold. The firm is considering the potential market effects of the tariff and could resume the sale when conditions improve.
3i Group declined to comment on the matter. MPM exports to more than 30 countries, including the US, and the new tariffs have raised concerns over the impact on its business.
