The International Platform of Insects for Food and Feed (IPIFF) and Argenta have announced a strategic advisory partnership to accelerate the development and regulatory approval of insect-based solutions for animal health and nutrition.
This collaboration brings together IPIFF’s extensive knowledge of insect production and Argenta’s scientific and regulatory expertise. By working jointly, the organisations aim to bridge the gap between sustainable insect farming and the stringent requirements of veterinary medicine, animal nutrition and food markets.
Under the agreement, Argenta will act as a Strategic Advisory Member on animal health and nutrition, as well as human nutrition product development for IPIFF. Its team will provide non-voting strategic guidance, supporting IPIFF and its members in navigating complex approval processes with authorities such as the European Food Safety Authority and the European Medicines Agency.
Key areas of collaboration include regulatory pathway expertise, with advice on designing preclinical and clinical studies to generate the data required for market authorisation of insect-based products. Argenta will also contribute scientific input through IPIFF working groups, offering technical feedback on product development and reviewing position papers on the efficacy and safety of insect-derived ingredients. In addition, the partnership will promote knowledge exchange through workshops, webinars and scientific forums, connecting insect producers with animal health specialists.
The partnership is expected to support progress across both animal and human nutrition by streamlining the route from concept to commercialisation for insect-based products. With Argenta’s guidance, IPIFF members will be better prepared to meet scientific and regulatory requirements, strengthening confidence among stakeholders including veterinarians, livestock producers, petfood manufacturers and food producers. The collaboration will also focus on establishing best practices for quality, stability testing and safety assessment, helping to advance sustainable nutritional solutions.
Adriana Casillas, President of IPIFF, welcomed the partnership, highlighting Argenta’s ‘molecule to market’ expertise as key to unlocking the potential of insect-based products. Steven Barbosa, IPIFF Secretary-General, described the agreement as an important step in supporting members to overcome development challenges and bring innovations to market.
Dr Klaus Hellmann, Managing Director of KLIFOVET GmbH and Pen & Tec Consulting SLU, part of the Argenta Group, noted the strong potential of the insect sector and emphasised the role of regulatory and clinical expertise in ensuring product safety and efficacy.
The initial agreement will run for one year from March 2026, with provisions for automatic renewal.
