Meet the Speakers: Petfood & Aquafeed Extrusion Conference 2025

Petfood & Aquafeed Extrusion Conference is co-organised by VIV, International Aquafeed, International Petfood, and Dr Mian Riaz of Texas A&M University. Taking place on March 11, 2025, at the IMPACT Challenger, Bangkok, Thailand, this conference will focus and specialise on the extrusion and related equipment for pet and aqua feeds.

Roger Gilbert

Roger Gilbert, CEO of International Petfood

Mr Roger Gilbert was the Secretary General of the International Feed Industry Federation, which he co-founded in in 1987. In that time, he saw the federation rise from humble beginnings, to represent more than 85% of all compound feeds produced globally. He initiated the industry’s NGO representation with Codex Alimentarius and set up one of the first Memorandum of Understandings between an industry and the United Nation’s Food and Agriculture Organisation.

Today, Mr Gilbert is the publisher of International Petfood, International Aquafeed and Milling & Grain magazine: three international magazines translated into several languages to promote aqua and terrestrial protein production.

Dr Mian Riaz

Dr Mian Riaz, Texas A&M University

Dr. Mian N. Riaz is Associate Dept. Head and Holder of the Professorship in Food Diversity in the Department of Food Science and Technology at Texas A&M University, USA. He joined Texas A&M University 31 years ago after completing his Ph.D in Food Science from the University of Maine, USA.  His first academic appointment was in 1992 at Texas A&M University, Food Protein R&D Center (FPRDC), where he was put in charge of the Food and Feed Extrusion Program and went on to become the head of the Extrusion Program and a member of the Graduate Faculty in the Food Science and Technology Program. He served as Director FPRDC from 2005 to March 31, 2020. (In 2016 the name of the Center was changed to Process Engineering R&D Center). Currently, he is the Director of Extrusion Technology Program, where he offers 5 courses every year in food and feed extrusion through Professional & Continuing Education program, TEES Edge, Texas A&M University System. Three of these courses are in pet food/feed and two of them are in snack and plant protein extrusion. He has published seven books (three of them are on extrusion technology) 28 chapters and more than 163 papers on extrusion and other related topics. He has given more than 725 talks in 66 different countries. 

Phil Erickson

Phil Erickson, Reynolds Engineering & Equipment Inc

Phil Erickson is currently the International Application Engineer for Reynolds Engineering &Equipment, INC. Phil received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota in Analytical Chemistry. Employed at Honey well’s sensor and signal processing research and development center after graduation. He has worked n the Bulk Dry Powder Processing industry for the last 30 some years focusing on ultra fine size reduction and classification of inorganic and organic materials.During his year in the industry he has been involved in production of shrimp and larval aqua feeds throughout the world. Working with most major aqua feed facilities in the production of specialty feeds which require ultra fine input materials. In addition, he is well versed in the evolving developments and requirements associated with natural and organic production of foods and feeds

Michel Pereira

Michel Bauer Pereira is the Global Application Manager for Aqua & Pet, at Andritz. He has 7 years working with the company, and if focusing currently on sizing equipment, Process evaluations and Trainings. Living in Joinville, Brazil, Michel Graduated in Mechanical Engineering with MSc in Aeronautical Engineering. He is experienced as a project, process and field engineer, working in the food/feed industry for more than 10 years. Michel is also an Amateur marathoner.

Louison Duclaux

Louison Duclaux, Clextral

Louison DUCLAUX holds a Food Engineering degree from the Rhone Alpes Superior Institute of Agronomy (ISARA Lyon). Based in Singapore, he has been Clextral’s APAC process engineer for the last two years. His wide range of expertise allows him to support the local customers on all extrusion applications (feed & food), from R&D machines to industrial line. 

Olivier Drean

Olivier Dréan joined CPM’s Process Solutions Business Unit in October 2024 as Vice President of Pet Food, where he leads the growth of this new segment, tapping into the organization’s expertise and manufacturing capabilities.
Prior to CPM, Olivier served as Managing Director for Clextral in Asia Pacific, driving the expansion of extrusion solutions for food, pet food, and fish feed.
With a Master of Science in Industrial Engineering, Olivier has built a diverse career with experience across Europe, South America, and Asia Pacific.

Dr. Fengde – David Ma

Dr. Ma earned his Ph.D. in Materials Science from Michigan Technological University, USA. He joined FAMSUN Research Institute in 2015 and has since played pivotal roles in the operation of the FAMSUN Test Center, and the development of feed processing equipment. Dr. Ma has also contributed to multiple key national R&D projects, building extensive expertise in the research, development, and application of feed processing technologies. 

Currently, Dr. Ma serves as the Deputy Director of the FAMSUN Research Institute, where he leads efforts in joint innovation with key customers and drives the optimization and advancement of integrated feed processing solutions.  

Philipp Fritschi

Philipp Fritschi is currently Regional Manager, Value Nutrition at Bühler Southeast Asia & Oceania. In his role, Philipp leads the regional business for grains, food and feed solutions, including new market development, customer collaboration and technical services. 

Philipp joined Bühler in 2006 and has since worked in various areas of expertise, mainly in milling solutions in Switzerland, Korea and China. Prior to his current appointment, Philipp was Chief Engineer Food Technology in Greater China where he led and supported the strong growing businesses and developed various innovative solutions in grains and food. 

Philipp earned a Science Degree in Flour Milling from the Swiss Milling School in Switzerland. He also obtained an MBA of the Bühler Group. 

Marco Prati

Marco Prati, PLP Systems

Marco Prati is the CEO of PLP Systems an international company based in Italy specializing in the development and production of machinery for liquid and powder handling. 

Marco studied Mechanical Implementation and Construction in the Province of Piacenza and then in 2003 began working for PLP Systems, a company founded in 1978 by his father. Marco began his career path in the Technical Design and Development office and was 

instrumental in reinventing the company with innovation and new technology. Together with the help of his experienced team, PLP were able to offer customers complete and customized solutions for the dosing, coating and weighing of both powders and liquids. 

Marco then transferred to the Commercial office and over the past decade his work has been focused upon many areas including the creation and development of a PLP worldwide commercial network covering, in specific, Asia, South America and Europe, a project which is in continuous growth and development. 

In 2013, after the retirement of his father Antonio Prati, Marco became the new Director of 

the company. Marco attaches great importance to being open to new ideas and unique solutions, this being an integral part of the culture at PLP as well as innovation, precision and reliability. He is constantly striving towards new goals and challenges with the aim of establishing PLP Systems as a leader in its market.
