Spot & Tango Expands UnKibble Production

Petfood manufacturer Spot & Tango is investing more than US$20 million to expand its facility in Allentown, increasing production capacity to meet growing demand for its flagship UnKibble dog food range.

The company is enlarging its site from 70,000 to 90,000 square feet and plans to add 50 new roles to its existing workforce of 100 employees. The new positions will support production, quality assurance, maintenance, logistics and warehouse operations.

Founded in 2018 by Dylan Munro and Russell Breuer, Spot & Tango began as a small operation producing fresh dog food in a home kitchen in Queens, New York, before shipping products directly to customers. The concept was inspired by Breuer’s dog, Jack, and grew from an interest in high-quality, home-prepared petfood.

As demand increased, the company established its current manufacturing facility on Morris Court in Allentown.

Initially focused on fresh dog food made with human-grade ingredients, Spot & Tango later identified challenges associated with refrigerated products, including storage requirements, portability and convenience.

To address these concerns, the company developed UnKibble, a shelf-stable dog food made using the same human-grade ingredients as its fresh range. Produced through a proprietary drying process, the product offers the nutritional profile of fresh food in a kibble-like format.

Munro described UnKibble as a distinct category within the dog food market, noting that its production process differs from conventional kibble manufacturing. The product is also priced lower than the company’s refrigerated offerings, selling for around 40 percent less while maintaining the same ingredient standards.

According to the company, demand for UnKibble exceeded expectations following its launch, with initial production volumes selling out within days.

Spot & Tango took possession of the expanded facility on June 1 and expects the site to be fully operational by July. To date, the company says it has served more than 150 million dog meals through its website.
