Canidae Pet Food recently joined Pet Sustainability Coalition (PSC) as an Icon member, the highest membership level in the organisation, expanding PSC’s membership.
“This is an exciting moment on our journey to create a world of sustainable goodness for pets and our planet,” remarks Dana Paris, Canidae Chief Marketing Officer.
Icon membership means companies whose investment in PSC helps to advance the company’s environmental and social performance while being important contributors to PSC’s work on major issues facing the pet industry. Canidae’s engagement with PSC will support advancements in industry-wide priorities, including sourcing sustainable ingredients, sustainable packaging and promoting a more equal world.
Canidae’s work towards sustainability has made significant progress in recent years, including introducing more sustainable ingredients into recipes, increasing investment in regenerative agriculture, launching sustainable packaging solutions and introducing sustainable solutions to their manufacturing and operations.
Canidae Sustain is one step towards introducing a petfood product featuring premium recipes made with responsibly sourced proteins and the highest PCR packaging available in petfood. Sustain is made up of a plant-based formula that utilises up-cycled brewer’s yeast.
By sourcing regeneratively farmed ingredients, the petfood producer is supporting US farmers who support the idea of leaving American soil for future generations in a better state than it was found. It also sheds light on an important agricultural movement and extending the use of regenerative farming techniques that can be sustainable and economically viable for farmers.
“Canidae has been known in the pet industry for its sustainable approach,” says Anne Klein, Director of Member Services at PSC. “We are particularly excited about their support of regenerative agricultural practices and look forward to working with this industry leader.”
“Our mission to do the right things for pets and for our planet is what inspires our commitment to regenerative agriculture, sustainable ingredients and planet-friendly operations,” adds Bret Furio, Canidae CEO. “We’re excited to join in PSC’s ambition to create a more sustainable pet industry and partner with them to accelerate our sustainability roadmap.”
