
Interzoo spotlighted sustainability, innovation and industry leadership as the global pet industry gathered for the opening of on May 11 in Nuremberg. Organised by WZF – Pet Industry Services, the awards were presented during the opening ceremony of the world’s leading trade fair for the pet industry.
The Interzoo Awards, which were first given out in 2024 and are being offered for the second time this year, honour businesses and individuals that are promoting global expansion, sustainability, and innovative concepts in the industry. Norbert Holthenrich received the Interzoo Personality Award, one of the evening’s greatest accolades, for his role in the growth and globalisation of Interzoo. The expo has expanded dramatically under his direction, becoming an important international venue for the pet business.
In his homage, Gordon Bonnet emphasised the trade show’s explosive global expansion since Interzoo welcomed 1,539 exhibitors from 53 nations in 2012. Approximately 2,400 exhibitors from almost 70 nations participate in the expo on the first day, demonstrating what Bonnet called a strong commitment to international cooperation and industry development.
The event also recognised international participation through the Interzoo Long Distance Award, presented to Zealandia Ltd.. The company, which has its headquarters in Auckland, travelled about 18,300 kilometres to take part in the exhibition. Peter Ottmann claims that the prize is a reflection of Interzoo’s expanding position as a truly international hub for industry gatherings.
Throughout the opening ceremony, sustainability continued to be a top priority. For its algae-based omega-3 oil solution, which aims to lessen reliance on marine raw resources in pet food production, dsm-firmenich received the Interzoo Sustainability Award. Finalists for the award also included i Tail Corporation (ITC) and ADM.
Elliott Harris gave the award while praising the industry’s increasing dedication to sustainability and ethical business practices in his keynote speech.
The introduction of the Interzoo Pioneer Award, which honoured Redoggo for their creative dog toys built from repurposed car parts like seatbelts and airbags, was another highlight.
Through this year’s awards, Interzoo 2026 reinforced its message of innovation, responsibility and international cooperation, while showcasing the evolving priorities shaping the future of the global pet industry.
