The acquisition forms part of the company’s growth strategy and is intended to expand its product offering, strengthen its supply chain and add expertise across animal species, manufacturing, innovation and animal performance.

The Dalton operation includes a manufacturing facility that was developed first by Provimi and later by Cargill. According to Harbro, the site has been developed with a focus on people, quality, compliance and operational excellence. The company said it will continue investing in the facility and its workforce to maintain standards in quality, safety, regulatory compliance and nutritional expertise.

Nutrition, innovation and technology will remain central to the operation. Harbro plans to combine its technical expertise and international insight with capabilities from the Dalton business to develop its offering for customers and the wider livestock industry.

Following the acquisition, Cargill’s Dalton business will continue to operate as a separate company while Harbro and Cargill’s teams work on integrating systems and processes. Harbro expects this integration to be completed by early 2027.

Harbro CEO Chris Baxter said the Dalton team’s capability and expertise make the business a strong fit with the company and will allow them to expand their offering, strengthen customer relationships and deliver even greater value across the UK market. He added that “By combining the strengths of both teams, we are excited to enhance our nutritional solutions and support improved performance for farmers, wholesale partners and the wider livestock industry.”

Cargill’s Senior Vice President Helene Ziv-Douki said the transition would allow both organisations to focus on areas where they can have the greatest impact on customers, and they look forward to continuing to partner with the livestock feed company in the future.
