Spanish Biotechnology firm Tebrio has completed a £25.2 million (€30 million) funding round aimed at increasing production and infrastructure at its new 90,000-square-meter facility which is under construction in Salamanca, Spain.

The investment will allow Tebrio to significantly increase its annual production of Tenebrio Molitor, or mealworms, to over 100,000 tons, addressing the rising demand and fulfilling existing client commitments.

Currently, Tebrio operates a 3,500-square-meter production plant, where it processes mealworm to produce protein, fat, biofertilizer, and chitosan. Founded in 2014, Tebrio is specialised in providing sustainable solutions for the agri-food industry, food safety and circular economy model. CEO and cofounder Adriana Casillas remarked that the new investment validates their industrial model based on proprietary technology, which enables competitive pricing and supports expansion into new geographic markets.
