Nylabone Marks 70 Years by Giving Back $70K to Shelter Dogs

Nylabone, an iconic brand has donated 15,000 chew toys, valued at $70,000, to shelters and rescue groups across the United States through its CHEWS for Good campaign, benefiting Best Friends Animal Society and its nationwide network in 2025.

The CHEWS for Good initiative, launched in honour of Nylabone’s 70th anniversary, encouraged pet owners to upload their purchase receipts to Nylabonecares.com. The business gave a chew toy to a shelter dog for each receipt that was turned in. The initiative not only promoted animal welfare but also offered participants opportunities to win rewards, such as gift cards and a $30,000 grand prize.
“At the heart of our organization is the passion and purpose to give all dogs the healthiest, happiest way to do what they love: chew,” said Glen S. Axelrod, President and CEO of Nylabone Products. “That’s why we wanted to celebrate our 70th birthday by encouraging fellow pet parents to help us give shelter dogs a safe, non-destructive chewing outlet as they wait to find their forever homes.”

The Best Friends Animal Society locations and partner shelters across the country, including those in Kanab, Utah; Los Angeles, California; Bentonville, Arkansas; Houston, Texas; Chicago, Illinois; and the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, Utah, received Nylabone’s chew toys throughout the year. Dogs affected by the July 2025 Texas floods were also helped by donations made in Texas and at the refuge.

Since its founding in 1984, Best Friends Animal Society has worked to preserve every healthy and treatable pet in shelters with the goal of making the whole United States a no-kill nation. In collaboration with over 5,500 shelters and rescue organisations across the country, the organisation runs facilities and initiatives that save lives.
Understanding dogs’ innate instincts is the foundation of Nylabone’s aim. The brand continues to encourage healthy, non-destructive chewing behaviors—bringing comfort, enrichment, and delight to dogs and the people who love them—after realising that chewing helps dogs deal with stress, separation anxiety, and boredom.
