Pet Valu Holdings Ltd. is set to welcome a new chief executive officer as Greg Ramier, currently the president and COO, will take over the role later this year. The announcement was made by the Markham, Ont.-based pet retailer.
Ramier, who joined Pet Valu from grocery giant Loblaw Cos. Ltd. in August 2024, will officially replace Richard Maltsbarger and join the company’s board on September 21. Following this date, Maltsbarger will transition to a senior adviser role, assisting with leadership changes until his retirement on April 4, 2026.
During Maltsbarger’s seven-year tenure, which included the COVID-19 pandemic, Pet Valu saw a surge in pet ownership. The company capitalised on this demand, doubling its revenue, quintupling its net income, and expanding its store network to 833 locations, with plans to reach 1,200 locations in the future.
