Unicharm Enters India’s Pet Market

Unicharm Corporation will enter the Indian pet care market in July 2026 as part of its strategy to expand its global pet care business and strengthen its presence in high-growth emerging markets.

The company said it will introduce products and services tailored to local consumer needs, drawing on experience gained across Japan, North America and Asia. Among the first products to be launched in India is the Ezi-Lock Odour Deodorising Cat Litter.

India’s pet care market has experienced rapid growth in recent years, driven by rising incomes and the increasing humanisation of pets. Demand for petfood and pet care products continues to grow, with the market projected to double in size by 2030 compared with 2025.

The expansion follows Unicharm’s entry into the Brazilian pet market in May 2026 through the acquisition of petfood manufacturer Nutrire. Both developments form part of the company’s 13th Medium-Term Management Plan, under which the pet care business has been identified as a key growth driver.

Unicharm entered the pet care sector in 1986 and now operates across 11 countries and regions, primarily in Asia and North America. In the 2025 financial year, the company’s pet care business generated consolidated net sales of JP¥156.1 billion, an increase of five percent compared with the previous year.

The company offers both petfood and pet care products, providing what it describes as a total care solution that supports pets from nutrition through to hygiene. Unicharm said it will continue developing products and services that reflect the needs of pet owners and local markets as it expands its global pet care business.
