ButcherBox Rebrands as a New Dog Food Brand

DASH Dog Food, the premium fresh-frozen dog food brand formerly known as ButcherBox for Pets, has launched as an independent company with a new name and brand identity.

Having developed its own product portfolio, supply chain and growing customer base, the business said the rebrand reflects its evolution beyond its parent company and establishes an identity focused solely on pet nutrition.

The company applies the sourcing standards, supplier expertise and quality controls developed by Founder and CEO Bobby Quirk during more than a decade at ButcherBox to its fresh-frozen dog food offering. Quirk joined ButcherBox in 2015 as the company’s first employee and later served as Vice President of Operations before leading the petfood division. ButcherBox founder Mike Salguero now serves as Executive Chairman of DASH.

A business inspired by one dog

The idea for DASH originated when Quirk brought home a puppy named Maisy and began searching for a fresh dog food product he trusted. Drawing on his experience managing beef and poultry supply chains for human food, he became concerned by what he described as inconsistent sourcing standards, a lack of transparency and production methods that could compromise nutritional quality.

Unable to find a product that met his expectations, Quirk applied the sourcing and quality principles he had developed at ButcherBox to the fresh dog food category.

Focus on sourcing and transparency

DASH positions itself as a fresh-frozen dog food brand built around detailed sourcing and production standards.

Its recipes are made using 100 percent grass-fed beef and certified organic chicken sourced from suppliers that meet the company’s requirements for animal welfare and production practices. The ingredients are sourced without antibiotics or added hormones.

The company produces its food in small batches using a sous vide cooking process at 165°F, a method designed to retain nutritional value while creating a fresh-frozen product. Recipes also include prebiotics and postbiotics formulated to support digestive health, immunity and mobility.

All DASH recipes are formulated to meet Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) standards for complete and balanced nutrition and are developed with input from veterinary and nutrition professionals. Production takes place in USDA-certified kitchens in the United States.

The company has also adopted transparent packaging that allows consumers to see the product inside the one-pound fresh-frozen pouches.

Commenting on the launch, Mike Salguero said DASH was created from Quirk’s desire to provide a food product he trusted for his own dog and has since been developed around a commitment to sourcing standards, transparency and ingredient quality.
