ADM, a global leader in nature-based solutions, is expanding its PRIOME® postbiotics portfolio for pets with the introduction of PRIOME® Joint Health. Preliminary in vitro and model organism studies indicate that PRIOME® JH may help support joint health, cartilage function, collagen production, muscle maintenance, gut barrier integrity and healthy weight management.

A growing body of research highlights the relationship between the gut microbiome and joint health, often referred to as the gut–joint axis. An imbalance in the gut microbiome can increase intestinal permeability, allowing bacteria and related compounds to pass into systemic circulation. Studies suggest that this movement of microbial metabolites can trigger various physiological responses, providing a potential mechanistic link between the gut microbiome and joint health. Notably, evidence of this connection has also been observed in dogs.
“Joint health is one of the primary concerns for pet owners when it comes to their pet’s quality of life, as it influences not only mobility but also energy levels, healthy ageing and overall activity,” said Mark Lotsch. “Our postbiotic ingredient offers an innovative, science-backed solution that supports wellness across a range of pet-friendly applications, giving pet owners convenient and easy-to-use options in pet care.”
“We combine extensive formulation expertise with a strong portfolio of microbiome solutions — including prebiotics, probiotics and postbiotics — to help brands bring consumer-driven pet products to market,” said James Kyffin. “From tailored formulations to market-ready solutions, we enable convenient, on-trend innovations supported by clinically studied ingredients that deliver real value for today’s pet owners.”
As inanimate microorganisms, postbiotics do not depend on cell viability for efficacy, and their functionality is retained throughout manufacturing and stability testing. The performance of ADM’s PRIOME® postbiotics is validated by application scientists across a broad range of finished product formats, including powders, soft chews, baked treats, extruded treats and chews, liquids, dry kibble and wet food. Product manufacturers can readily incorporate PRIOME® postbiotics into different formulations at suitable inclusion levels without affecting the taste or aroma of the final product, helping to maintain palatability for pets.
