ADM to close Brazil petfood plant as part of cost-cutting efforts

US agri-food giant ADM is set to close its petfood manufacturing plant in Três Corações, Minas Gerais, marking the end of its petfood production in Brazil, Just Food reported. This decision will impact around 750 employees at the facility, as well as approximately 150 workers at various undisclosed locations.

The company stated in a press release, “We will no longer have dedicated pet manufacturing facilities in Brazil. Our pet business in other countries and regions will continue.” ADM explained that the closure aligns with its strategy to streamline operations and focus on meeting customer needs effectively.

ADM has been assessing its portfolio to simplify operations and improve efficiency, noting that the Três Corações facility no longer meets its future operational requirements.

In February, the company revealed plans to cut costs by US$500-700 million over the next five years, citing challenges such as global legislative uncertainties.

Financial results show that ADM generated US$85.5 billion in revenue for 2024, an 8.9% decline from the previous year. Operating profit also fell by 28.8% to US$4.2 billion, with net profit dropping 47% to US$1.8 billion.

In Q1 2025, revenue stood at US$20.17 billion, a 7.6% decrease from the same quarter in 2024, with net earnings falling sharply by 59.5% to US$295 million.

The closure of the Três Corações facility illustrates ADM’s ongoing efforts to adapt to market challenges and streamline its operations.
