European Energy A/S has signed a long-term agreement with Mars Inc to supply renewable electricity from a 158.4MW wind project in Lithuania, reports Renewables Now.

The virtual power purchase agreement covers most of the output from the planned Skuodas Wind Farm, which is expected to generate around 490GWh annually. The deal also includes the purchase of related Guarantees of Origin.

With the contracted electricity volumes, Mars said it will be able to decarbonise operations at its petfood manufacturing facility in Lithuania, supporting the company’s wider commitment to renewable energy across its value chain.

The agreement forms part of the Mars Renewable Acceleration Programme, which sits within the company’s broader sustainability strategy. Mars has set a target to reduce its total carbon footprint by 10 percent by 2030, compared with a 2015 baseline.

The Skuodas Wind Farm is scheduled to be commissioned in 2028. According to European Energy, the project has not yet reached financial close, with the agreement expected to support its commercial and financing structure.
